From her early career teaching English in Vietnam, to her recent work leading a department for a charter school network, Lillian has always had a passion for teaching and inspiring change. It’s that same passion - that love of witnessing “aha” moments and empowering personal breakthroughs - that led her to Own The Room.
Lillian is a dedicated, mission-driven leader; after opening and leading Volunteers in Asia’s office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, she returned stateside to help New York-based nonprofit Success Academy Charter Schools grow from fourteen to 43 schools in just three short years. A graduate of Barnard College with an MBA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Lillian also managed communications for women’s empowerment nonprofit Pacific Links Foundation in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. She’s received a multitude of training in diversity, inclusion, and social justice techniques, sharing her learnings with others as a trainer at DiversityWorks.
If you’ve watched Vietnamese cable, you might recognize Lillian from a stint on "Vietnam My Love," a reality show that followed foreign residents on their adventures around the country. And if you hadn’t guessed, yes - she’s fluent in Vietnamese.
“This workshop is AWESOME. Lillian's workshop not only made our fellows' presentations more polished in front of our clients, but also gave them salient presentation skills and a confidence boost that they carried with them beyond their client work. In particular, Lillian's humor, ability to relate to her audience, and her enthusiasm both for her work and for the goals of the workshop members were contagious. We still remember several of her tricks and tidbits and have incorporated them into our company culture and personal presentation style.”
