Michelle helps organizations grow through modern marketing that builds profitable customer relationships via data, digital and branded experiences. She has led major growth agendas partnering with boards, CEOs and executive teams as an agency principal, corporate CMO and e-commerce business leader. Michelle recently served as EVP, Chief Marketing Officer for Staples, and is currently a board director for Bose Corporation, as well as the Society of Human Resource Management, the global credentialing organization for the HR profession.
Prior to Staples, Michelle was Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at Mercer where she led the sales strategy and marketing function delivering $1B in new revenue each year. Her first CMO role was with Barclaycard for the US then the global marketing team where she established the Barclaycard brand in the US, reduced the CPA shifting from direct mail to digital marketing, while launching mobile payments, value-added services and the leading Barclaycard cash-back credit card. Her efforts contributed to tripling the Barclaycard business over three years. She served on the Barclays Bank of Delaware Board.
Michelle’s career started within the agency world leading customer-centric growth on behalf of the world’s best brands – first with Bronner Slosberg Humphrey (Digitas), then Epsilon and Ogilvy – the world’s leading advertising and targeted marketing agencies.
Whether agency or corporate-side, Michelle’s personal passion is helping organizations grow with a clear and compelling purpose that sets brands apart and creates emotional connections with their employees and the markets they serve. She is thrilled to be on the Own The Room board, helping the company further unlock the potential of every human in the organization to communicate and engage with power, moving their businesses and the people within them forward.
GAREY DE ANGELIS
Early in his career, Garey participated in a series of public speaking and leadership trainings that proved to be life-changing. His employer’s investment in his communication skills became one of the greatest factors of his lifelong success. Today, as Own The Room’s President & COO, he is on a mission to help thousands of people unleash their potential as effective leaders and communicators.
After starting his professional journey as an engineer and later a marketing manager at DuPont, Garey joined Apple in Hong Kong as Director of Far East Product Development. He subsequently led Apple’s Asia Pacific Software Division in Tokyo and directed the MacOS licensing program in Cupertino. Later, Garey served as the CEO of Motion Media Technologies, the US subsidiary of a video communications company listed on the London Stock Exchange, and facilitated its successful merger into the SCOTTY Group.
As VP of Product Development at Digital Lifestyle Outfitters, Garey helped the company grow by 4,385% over a 3-year period, prompting Inc. Magazine to rank it as the 3rd fastest-growing company in 2006, before its acquisition by Phillips, where he was instrumental in launching Philips’ entry into the Internet of Things.
Bill gave his first commencement speech while still in his 20s. As he built his career in the nonprofit and online world, he developed a niche: tips and tricks for teaching other people to become great speakers. This system evolved to become Own the Room.
Before Own The Room, Bill co-founded CMI, the parent company of CafeMedia and CafeMom, and worked with Mountain Lakes International. He has done nonprofit work with Into the Streets, Do Something, and The LEAGUE, as well as America’s largest volunteer network, Points of Light/HandsOn Network.
He has delivered Own The Room methodology, leadership training, and executive coaching to business executives, celebrities, and athletes on five continents and across numerous sectors.
John Nugent is a proven and successful executive with close to thirty years of experience in the high-technology industry, and is viewed as one of the most capable sales and operational leaders in the software business. John has an established track record of successfully managing global operations, motivating sales organizations and growing revenues.
Prior to John’s most recent appointment as President and CEO of Serena Software, he served as Executive Vice President of worldwide operations at SAP Business Objects where he was responsible for global sales, sales operations, sales consulting and field training. Prior to his worldwide role at SAP, John served as SAP’s COO of the Americas, Asia and Japan, and earlier as executive vice president of sales and operations in the United States.
Prior to joining SAP, John served in executive and senior sales management positions at Oracle Corporation for seventeen years, where he was most recently senior vice president of sales and was responsible for managing all lines of business and market segments in the eastern United States. John’s sales career began at Software International, where he spent more than six years marketing and selling mainframe application software to Fortune 1000 companies.
Mike Smith oversees all efforts at Stitch Fix to make the Men's business a success. He joined Stitch Fix to deliver a superior customer experience that benefits from what he believes is the best retail business model in a long time.
Prior, Mike was COO at Walmart.com where he oversaw all operations for a $5 billion division, including one of the most successful multi-channel offerings in the industry, which drove as much as half of Walmart.com’s sales.
Prior to Walmart, Mike worked in business and corporate development in software and consumer internet. He holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the Haas School at University of California, Berkeley.
